Buda and Pest were formerly two independent towns and even today, each displays a different vibe and crowd; Buda is serene and relaxed, Pest is busy and buzzing. Het 13e eeuwse paleis staat aan de Donau en is met een prachtige tuin zeker de moeite waard om te bekijken. Het paleis staat op een heuvel, waardoor het Burchtpaleis ook nog eens een prachtig.

Pest was the first medieval urban centre, devastated in 1241-2. A few years later the castle of Buda was built on a rocky spur on the right bank by King Bela IV. Thereafter, the city reflected the history of the Hungarian monarchy. After the end of the Turkish occupation, recovery did not really begin until the 18th century.
